I’m actually shocked that I haven’t done this album yet. In fact, I’m shocked that I didn’t put it on my best of 2009, because there was nary a day where I didn’t listen to this album. Canopy Glow is one of the freshest most original albums I’ve heard in a long time, which isn’t really suprising if you’ve ever listened to Anathallo. There really isn’t another band like them. I mean, who else would devote a whole album to a japanese folk story surrounded by a mystical dog? (See : Floating World)
Canopy Glow picks up where Floating World left off and creates a musical sound scape that immediately sucks you in. Noni’s Field, the first song off the album is infectious, engaging and ….AWESOME. Anathallo have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear, and this song definitely shows that. Italo, the second song on the album is an incredibly uplifting song (at least it sounds like it, you can never really tell with Anathallo, hah) and probably my favorite from the band. It’s the kind of song that will be stuck in your head for weeks, months, years, decades! Ok, maybe a day.
By the time you get to Lost Ring Finger you’ve noticed something stellar about this album, there is absolutely no filler. Every song on here is incredible and well thought out, and not some throw away song that the band only included so they could make it to ten songs. If you don’t believe me, then you probably haven’t listened to this album, so do yourself a favor and go get it today. Like, right now. iTunes it, or God forbid, download it illegally (but don’t do that, the band needs your support yo.)
And hey, if you ever get a chance to see them live, DO IT. It will blow your mind at just how genius these guys are. Amazing.
Also, that girl is a pretty good dancer. I’m just saying.
Ok, catch you tomorrow guys!
